Hazardous-area finder.

Two lines that must never be mixed: models with a real Ex certificate, and models whose protection is IP-rated only. Answer three questions and the finder returns the line you may actually specify — with the compliance step attached.

CERTIFIED BUILD

ATEX / IECEx certificate

The only tier that may enter a classified area. The certificate — Ex marking, certificate number, notified body and holder — ships with the quotation and must be verified before the unit goes on site.

GB CERTIFIED

Chinese GB/T 3836

Valid in China and accepted case-by-case in parts of the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Not recognised in the EU or North America — the site HSE decides, not the datasheet.

NOT EX-CERTIFIED

IP68 / IP69K protection only

Wash-down and outdoor durability. An IP rating is not explosion protection — these models must not enter a classified area, whatever the marketing page implies.

Three questions

Screen by industry, zone and certificate scheme.

The finder narrows the line the same way our engineer would: what the site does, how the area is classified, and which certificate the project will accept.

STEP 1

What does the site do?

STEP 2

How is the work area classified?

STEP 3

Which certificate will the project accept?

Compliance notes

01

The certificate names a holder

ATEX / IECEx certificates are issued to a manufacturer, model and build. We supply and integrate the line; the certificate holder is stated on the document that ships with the quotation. Verify it against the NANDO or IECEx database before the unit enters the area.

02

IP68 is not explosion protection

Ingress ratings describe water and dust. Zone eligibility comes only from an Ex marking on a certificate — never from a datasheet marketing line, and never from a navigation menu that says "ATEX".

03

Options can void the build

Modules such as DMR radio, thermal imaging or scanners are only covered if the certificate lists them. We confirm which configuration is certified before quoting — in writing.

For a line-by-line guide to reading an Ex marking and verifying a certificate before the purchase order, see the intrinsically safe device guide.

Certification questions

What the certificate does and does not cover

The marking on the label decides the model. These are the questions that come up before the safety officer signs.

All questions
01Do the Android units ship with GMS?
Most Android models ship with GMS. For builds where Google services must be absent, we supply a GMS-free firmware on the same hardware — say so at the quotation stage, because it is a firmware decision, not a setting.
02What warranty do you give?
One year as standard, covering the unit and the battery against manufacturing faults. Extended cover and advance-replacement terms are available for fleets — ask for them with the quotation, not after the first failure.
03What about MDM and Android Enterprise?
The devices support standard Android Enterprise enrolment. We can also pre-configure a kiosk or launcher lock before dispatch so the pilot units arrive ready to use instead of needing a setup day.
04What happens when a unit fails in the field?
We diagnose from the serial number and the fault description, then repair, replace or ship a spare — whichever gets the site running sooner. Our after-sales and software team is around thirty engineers, not a ticket queue.

Send the area classification, not the model number.

Tell us the zone drawing, the gas or dust group and the certificate the project accepts. We come back with the models that are actually allowed in — and the ones that only look the part.
